The Environmental Media Initiative at UCSB seeks to improve understanding and management of environmental issues through the media (EMI background). While still in its developmental stage, there are already quite a few people in the UCSB community involved with EMI, and I believe a website devoted to the initiative will help improve communication and collaboration between individuals and departments.
I also believe the website can provide services to students and faculty interested in environmental media before the EMI becomes an official program (i.e. it could provide lists of relavent environmental media courses that are already offered, contact information for people involved, a calendar for EMI related events, etc).
I would hope the website could be a valuable tool for EMI until the program is (hopefully) officially established at UCSB.
